
Working together for a sustainable forest
Employees of the dalli group plant 1500 seedlings in the Stolberg forest
Stolberg, 18 December 2025 – Sustainability doesn’t start in a strategy paper, but out in the field. This is exactly where around 30 employees of the dalli group and Mäurer & Wirtz have now got to work: 1,500 young trees were planted together on a fallow forest area near Stolberg-Gressenich – as a concrete contribution to the reforestation and stabilisation of regional forests.
The action was accompanied by forester Lukas Stempin, who explained impressively on site why this measure is necessary. The area was previously part of a classic spruce monoculture. However, climate change, recurring dry periods, massive bark beetle infestation and windthrow have destroyed entire stands in recent years. What remains are bare areas – and the clear realisation that there is no “business as usual” in the forest.
Spruce was economically attractive for decades, but is highly vulnerable in today’s climate conditions. Reforestation therefore follows a new principle: mixed forests instead of monocultures. Robust, site-adapted tree species are planted that are better able to cope with heat, drought and extreme weather.
This diversity not only increases the resilience of the forest, but also creates habitats for insects, birds and other animal species. In short: the forest becomes more resilient, more diverse and more stable in the long term.
Taking responsibility – locally and concretely
For the dalli group, the commitment in the Stolberg forest is more than just a symbolic action. It is a deliberately local contribution that shows how sustainability can be implemented in practice: with employees, with expertise from the region and with a clear goal in mind.
The planting campaign combines a sense of ecological responsibility with team spirit and emphasises the dalli group’s claim to understand sustainability as a joint task – pragmatic, effective and long-term.
The forest reorganisation will take years. The seedlings planted now are a start. But a necessary one. And a visible one.
